Message from the PresidentHideki Mochizuki, M.D., Ph.D. Yoshitaka Nagai, M.D., Ph.D.
It is our great pleasure to hold the 66th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Neurology in Osaka from Wednesday, May 21, to Saturday, May 24, 2025. The Osaka International Convention Center will be our main venue, with additional sessions at the adjacent RIHGA Royal Hotel. This marks the first time in six years that the meeting will be held in Osaka, the previous being the 60th meeting hosted by Professor Susumu Kusunoki from Kinki University. We are particularly honored as this is the first time the Department of Neurology at Osaka University will serve as host. Our faculty and alumni are working diligently together in preparation. Continuing with the previous year’s structure, we have appointed a deputy chairman for this year’s meeting. Professor Yoshitaka Nagai from the Department of Neurology at Kinki University School of Medicine will fill this role. With Professor Nagai, we are committed to organizing the meeting from a broad perspective to ensure the satisfaction of all participants, including physicians, researchers, medical staff, and students. Given the limited time for active discussions, we are exploring the inclusion of debate-style symposiums inspired by international conferences. The theme of this annual meeting is “Neurology Pioneering the Future Society.” In the future, as neurological diseases are expected to become more prevalent, the role of neurologists will become increasingly vital in leading medical advancements. Neurologists need to safeguard the practice of detailed neurological examinations that AI cannot replicate, while also utilizing AI to drive research and adapt to future societal needs. This meeting will provide cutting-edge clinical and research presentations, prompting reflections on the crucial role of neurology in pioneering the future society. It is essential to recognize the significance of history for future development. We will also highlight the history of medicine at Osaka University, tracing its roots to Tekijuku, founded by Koan Ogata, a pioneering physician and researcher in the Edo period who contributed to the modernization of Japanese medicine. Additionally, this year marks 200 years since Jean-Martin Charcot was born, and we have an exhibition of his work. Furthermore, the conference coincides with the opening of the Osaka-Kansai Expo, offering both domestic and international participants the opportunity to enjoy the Expo. Our hope is that attendees will immerse themselves in Osaka’s vibrant culinary and comedic culture while sharing the latest research findings and knowledge in this dynamic environment, paving the way for the future of neurology. The meeting will provide new inspiration for research and clinical activities, contributing to the further development of neurology.
