Course Objectives

Recall current uses and applications of modern ECLS for patients with respiratory or cardiac failure slash arrest, including the basic physiological principles underlying its use

Discuss specific criteria to identify patients who are appropriate candidates for ECLS

Interpret the risks and benefits of initiating Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS), recall effective communication strategies to educate patients and families, and preform meaningful discussions to ensure informed decision-making.

Identify cannulation strategies can you see less circuit components understand the rationale behind the selection of specific cannulation techniques

Describe unique considerations regarding the management of ECLS and the pediatric and neonatal population

Recognize the psychosocial challenges including ethical considerations as well as the importance of a multidisciplinary care team approach for ECLS patients
